This autumn, gaze upon the earthly paradise of Shangri-La by the Nai Zi River from Songzanlin.

Ganden Songzanlin Temple was founded in 1679 AD, with a history of more than 340 years. It remains the largest Gelugpa Buddhist monastery in Yunnan. The three main halls at the top of the monastery, from left to right, are: the "Jikang" Hall (also known as the Zongkaba Hall), a five-story Tibetan-style tower with golden tiles, which is the main hall for major religious ceremonies; the Zancang Hall; and the "Zukang" Hall (also known as the Sakyamuni Hall), which embodies comprehensive and perfect wisdom. Below these are eight "Dakang" halls, representing the monastic organizations of eight regions radiating from Shangri-La as a center. These are all three-story Tibetan-style tower buildings. The surrounding two-story buildings are the monks' living quarters and dining halls, commonly known as monk's residences.
