Detailed description
To the southwest of Lake Ramco lies a peculiar mountain called "Dongqu Sheng," its shape resembling a giant tortoise. "Dong" means conch shell; legend says a pair of self-igniting white conch shells once appeared at the foot of this mountain, one of the treasures of Songzanlin Temple, and also a Buddhist ritual object. "Qusheng" means giant tortoise.
Legend says this mountain is the sacred mountain of a giant tortoise protector god under Bai Deng La Mu. A small stream flows from within the mountain, its water clear and pure, unpolluted. Therefore, on the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month, or during major religious ceremonies, monks and people come to collect water for use in offering incense.
